ON LEAVE

I was not able to write a post for two weeks, because of several reasons, like personal illness and the ill health of my son. Yesterday, I sat on comfortably for writing some thing in my blog, but unfortunately, there was some problem for my laptop. All on a sudden, it went wrong, sudden shut down, and could not recover from that unexpected shut down. I tried everything to start it, but all went vein. I could do nothing. Now, I am in an internet cafe to apologize. I won’t be able to be in my blog till my computer works properly, or till I find another option. Sorry…. to all; and am trying to be with my blog as early as possible.

Byeeeeee for a short period.

TYPHOONS

Typhoon

We are hearing news of cyclones and super cyclones that devastate a particular area or that kill masses. It challenge the country’s existence, destroying the life, property and all. A country that builds up slowly after a natural calamity has to surrender to another one. That is the fate of Philippines, which was recovering after the tsunami is now confronting the super cyclone Haiyan. Mostly the cyclones affect the poor and those who reside near the coastal areas. India has recently experienced the rage of the cyclone Phailin. It also devastated the coastal areas of Odisha and  Andhra Pradesh. Even though, the human loss was minimized by evacuating the coastal areas, the damages caused by the cyclone was not yet restructured. Still, the people are suffering from flood and diseases. They have come back to their native places after the cyclone, because they do not have another option. Though their properties are lost, their life is there. They can’t leave the place where they had lived. They have to rebuild all, for that, they need the help of many, the real challenge is after the cyclone. The government has gained applause that they could minimize the human loss, but they have to find the way to rehabilitate the affected.

Philippines has experienced more powerful cyclone; it was the biggest that the world had ever experienced. The death toll is unknown, the towns are like ghost cities. The city is flooded, bodies are floating, roads are filled with debris from fallen trees and tangled power line. Survivors are struggling to find out their loved ones. All are lost, shelter, wealth and beloveds, it is like becoming mad, what to do and where to search? Helps are offered by many countries, but who can console them!

Each cyclone terrifies us, the science has well developed to warn us about the coming typhoons, they are waiting with names for each typhoon, but we are helpless in front of the cyclones. Just watch, sympathize and pray. Let us help the poor people of Philippines with our money and prayers.

INDIA’S MARS MISSION

03_mangalyaan_jpg_1640714g

India’s Space Scientists have begun the countdown to launch its first unmanned mission to the orbiter of Mars. India is the fifth country to launch the Mars mission. The ISRO scientists are very proud as they are about to start the experiments on the Mars. The countdown has already started and the PSLV-C25  carrying the Mars orbiter will start its voyage on tomorrow morning. The launch is at Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota. It is expected to reach the Red Planet after 300 days voyage on 24 September 2014.  India’s Mars Mission is named as Mangalyaan, whereas the NASA’s mission is MAVEN. The two is planning to work simultaneously. The Indian scientists deserve a wild applause, as they are courageous and determined to launch such a mission from a developing country. The orbiter is supposed to study the atmosphere of Mars. When the India government has given the approval for the project the scientists are working tirelessly only for this project. A developing country like India is proving a lot with this mission, we have the brain power and the man power, if we get opportunity, our scientists can do wonders.

But there is criticism, on spending so much money, around 450 crore for the Mars mission when a large number of people are starving and a lot are living in slums. India is achieving recognition from the world, with it the country can invite the attention of many. Each victory on Space brings world recognition and with that we can boost our poverty eradication projects. India depends mainly on agriculture and it relies on the climate predictions. With our satellites we could predict the climate and it is reliable too. The farmers are getting benefits, when they become more self reliant, they are keen to educate their kids. Education is the basis to eradicate poverty. An educated community is the wealth of the country, with that we are getting awareness about health and sanitary programs and educated girls and women are courageous to speak for themselves.

A community is on the march to success with the help of our scientists. Let us salute them.

JOINT FAMILY

family

Being the member of a big family, I have to meet many  of my relatives once in a month. The previous week was ‘visitors week’ for us. We had to entertain some of our relatives during this time. I didn’t get the time to be with my blog. We had to make food for them, we had to arrange many things for their comforts and we had to go with them to visit the old acquaintances. Somehow, it is an enjoyable thing. Our visitors were two nuns and they had been with us for almost one week. It was many years back they had a visit to the native place.

It is a pleasure to see some old relatives, we can share many things, we have a lot to talk to them and they have a lot to tell us. We can cook together with them, it is really nice to make special dishes for their happiness. After a short period they will leave us, but we will be remembered with love and affection. We have a lot to learn from such an atmosphere; respect to others, how to share our things and time, how to be patient and tolerant and we are learning to understand and adjust as per the situation.

But there are relatives, who may be intolerable, whom we may like to avoid. Recently, we have another cousin, who likes to involve and interfere in the life of others. Their family life may be full of nuisance, but without rectifying it, they are keen to interfere in other’s life. They may visit regularly with vested interests, they may ask about the bank balance, about our personal family matters etc.

We can have both the types of relatives in a joint family. We must be judicious, and cunning while dealing with them, it is advisable to think twice before plunging into an action. Cheating, favoritism, and hypocrisy all will be there in one family.

But we can make it a heaven, with love, affection, respect, sincerity and co-operation. While having a self-respect, we should respect others and their feelings and suggestions. Recognition and encouragement, these two can strengthen our relationships. A happy family is a dream, that we can build with these qualities.

OPCW THE NOBEL PEACE PRIZE WINNER

OPCW headquarters

“We were aware that our work silently but surely was contributing to peace in the world,”this is the response of Ahmet Uzumcu, the director general of the OPCW after it was selected for the  2013 Nobel Peace Prize. It is the UN based Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons. 189 countries have membership in this organization. They all work hand in hand as the watchdogs against the use of chemical weapons. The headquarters is at Hague, Holland, it is in the news for the past one month, as the works of the organization at Syria is observed by the world. They are deputed to Syria to destroy the chemical weapons there. The Syrian Chemical Weapon tragedy forced the world to think of destroying the chemical weapons there, and the active involvement of the OPCW was honored with this Nobel Peace Prize.

It is the second consecutive year that the Nobel Peace Prize was won by an organization, in 2012, it was won by the European Union. OPCW was nowhere  in the news in the chances of winning the Nobel Prize, all expected the Nobel Peace Prize for Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistan educational activist. If she had won it, she would have been the youngest to win the prize.

At the time of the world possessing chemical weapons, the award points to the relevance of such an organization to destroy the destructor of the humanity. The whole world is under the threat of the chemical weapons, almost all countries claim that they have chemical weapons and it has become a threat; as any country may use it against its opponent. We may be destroying our new generation and our kids. What will be the after effect, if it falls in the hands of terrorist. The OPCW members are determinant to find out the chemical weapons are destroy it. This Nobel Peace Prize is the recognition for their works and it will boost their activities. They are observed and they are honored, they need it to go forward with their duties.

“Recent events in Syria, where chemical weapons have again been put to use, have underlined the need to enhance the efforts to do away with such weapons,” the Nobel committee in its citation observed. This award will definitely enhance their efforts to destroy the destructor.

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE OLDER PERSONS

images

Today is the day for our parents and grandparents. We, youths usually do not admire or respect their services, love and care. Do we need such a day to remember our parents, grandparents and our dear ones? We are parents and we have parents, each day goes on as usual, who has the time to remember old people? or who are worried about their needs? All are busy with their own problems and jobs. We have aged people in our homes. We give them food, clothes and medicines regularly. They are looked after, all their needs are fulfilled. But, still we need another day to remember our aged parents. It seems quite ironical?

On this day for the older people, let us remember all the aged people. They have worked hard for us, to give us proper food, clothes, shelter and education. They have renounced all they had for bringing up us. They were with us, caring us, when we fell ill. We have nothing to give back to them for their love, care and protection. When we became self reliant, we flew away from them. We have love and respect to our parents and grandparents, but our excuse is ‘ we don’t have time’.

We don’t have time to be with them, to talk with them, to spend  a little time with them. Really, they are expecting that. They don’t want any luxury, they need us, their children, to embrace once more. We should express our respect and love, for that,we should find time to be with them. Before going to office, we can meet and ask,” mother or father how are you? I am going, do you need anything special?” Just embrace them, and they need only that. They won’t demand us anything, just one or two minutes!! We can dine with our parents once in a week, share our problems, listen their advises and experiences. We should care them, and we can create a feeling in them that, they are loved and not unwanted.

Our little kids have a lot to learn from them. They are the encyclopedias of experiences, they may share their life as stories and each story will definitely has a moral; and that gives our kids the confidence and guidance.

A number of aged people are suffering because of loneliness and diseases. Let us remember them on this day and respect and value their services.

HUMAN GODS

images

I am not going for a controversy, I am not going to write anything about incarnations either. Recently, I happened to hear some people who consider themselves as super-human, or who assumes themselves of having some super power. They may produce something from the air. They may show some miracles, or they may vanish and appear all on a sudden. We may see lots of devotees with them, we may wonder about the followers that they have.

Some of them are doing charities, some of them have hospitals, schools, or other charitable organizations. They may be preaching about love, kindness, mercy and service. Some are doing philanthropic activities and some do services to the man kind. But are they real gods

I don’t think so. It is true that, they are philanthropists and they are admired and respected. But, I believe in only one God; that is on the unseen power that guides us and protects us. There is the power that revolves our earth. the power that gives us both sorrows and happiness, there is the power that consoles us and shields us from dangers. It is the God; not the super power. A true believer can be a philanthropist, he can serve the community, he can love the world and the society, he can live peacefully without the embrace of the human gods.

My son happened to see a photo of one human being who is worshiped by a lot, that person’s followers, adorn his/ her path with flowers and lighten the lamps under his/ her feet. He asked me, mother, how could a human being bless other human beings like gods do? What is his/ her power? I told him, if we should have firm belief on God, we won’t need such human gods, we should find solace only in God;we don’t want to follow these human gods.

They should be respected for their philanthropy, but not worshiped. They are only human beings like each one of us, they may have more knowledge, for that they should be admired, but not worshiped.

OUR HARVEST FESTIVAL

Onam4

I have been on short leave for the past ten days. We were having a short vacation, schools are closed for the ten days and so I had to stay with my son to entertain him and to be with him in his plays. It is the regular mid-term holidays that we usually have, it is associated with our harvest festival, that is ONAM. Actually, it is the ‘ONAM HOLIDAYS’ that we have in every year on August or September. It is associated with our regional calendar and we celebrate it on the month of Chingam (that is on local calendar) and it falls on mid-August. This time Onam was on the last days of Chingam and so in the middle of September. The great ruler Mahabali is remembered on this day. There is a myth that, he will come to visit his favorite people on this day and so people are making all the arrangements to receive their beloved ruler.

It is the big festival that all people in our region celebrate. Children are so particular to have new dress, and outings. On that particular day, we have had vegetarian meals with so many  palatable dishes.Onam-saddyaBoth children and elders like to swing, and dance like Thiruvathirakali. The floral arrangement is one of the most important thing that we do on Onam. We too had a small one arranged on our veranda. My son and his cousins did it beautifully. In the noon, we had a delicious meal, and in the end the sweet delicacy called ‘Payasam‘. Really, it was a cool day for celebration. Our pookalam

But this year’s Onam holidays were shortened because of the exams. Children have their Summative Assessments after the Onam vacation and it starts today on. It was a tedious task to compel the kids to prepare for the exams. After enjoying for three days, I asked my son to start his studies. I had to sit with him to cover all the subjects. He was hesitant to start the studies during vacation. I know that, it is not fare to ask him to study during holidays, but I had to. After so many compulsion and encouragements we managed to complete the revision.  But, I think, children get easily adapted to the situation. We may be irritated, hot-tempered and arrogant, if we are asked to do anything while we are enjoying; but for kids, their agitation ends very soon.

SUICIDE, A SOLUTION TO ALL????????

Stop Suicide

I happened to hear the suicide of an 11-year-old boy a few days back. First the news spread as the boy got hanged during his play, I thought how pathetic it was? A small negligence took the life, what would be the reaction of his parents and relatives? How could they tolerate this? All these worried me a lot; and really, kid’s aloofness while playing hounded me. I thought of my son and advised him to be careful while playing.

But two days later, I heard that, that boy’s death was not accidental, it was a suicide, another great shock!!!!!!, I could not believe my ears, how a small kid of 11 year could commit suicide, how he could even think of ending his life, what did he know about death, why? “there is no answer”. Our kids are terrifying us.

He might be worried, something might had happened at school, or at home or from parents or friends or from teachers. But, poor kid, if he could find anybody to share his feelings, or if he found anybody to pacify him or console him, he would have been here to enjoy his life.

Our kids are growing, in the world that offers a lot, more comforts, more technologies, more opportunity for entertainment, more friendships and more money. They are enjoying or they are immersed in all these, but it seems, they are not aware of the sorrows and needs of their fellow beings. They don’t want to, they are satisfied on what they get.

We should be more careful, while giving them all comforts, we should teach them, what the real world is. A large number of people are deprived of all these luxuries. We should teach them to share, the give and take will strengthen the relationships, a bond will be formed between people. This may support us. While having all these we are deprived of unconditional, sacrificing and serving love.

Let us find time to be with our kids, they have a lot to share. Let them speak out their sorrows, joys, gains and loses. Embrace them, appreciate them and console them. Be with them to build up a confidence to go forward to enjoy the beauty of their lives. There is only one life, let us make it worth with virtues.

NATIVITY OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY

Blessed Virgin Mary

Yesterday, September 8 was the birthday of Blessed Virgin Mary. There is no remark on the Scriptures about the birthday of Blessed Virgin Mary, but Catholics celebrate September 8 as the nativity of Blessed Virgin Mary. Mostly the feast of Saints are celebrated on the date of their death, but Virgin Mary is born without sin, so the birthday also is celebrated. Many Catholics are on lent from September 1 to 7, they go to Church, say Rosary and spend the time on prayer and repentance. There is a strong belief that, Mary will stand as the mediator for our prayers.

Born to the parents, Saint Anne and Saint Joachim, Mary spent her time in prayers and services. When the Angel Gabriel visited her with the news of becoming the mother of the Son of God, she was firm and courageous. Even though, her marriage was fixed with Joseph, she was not worried and never questioned. She surrendered her will to the Will of God, Gabriel had promised that, “God is with you” and Mary was strong all through her life that she believed that “God is with me”, never hesitated, never doubted and never complained, she was always there behind her son, the Lord Jesus.

For the birth of God’s son, she had to travel a lot and she got only the cow-shed, no help from anybody, only the care of her husband. But, she never questioned, why God’s son is born in a cow-shed, she understood that, it is the will of God. Again, both Joseph and Mary had to flee to save Infant Jesus from the attack of Herod. When she lost Jesus at the age of 12 in a church, she never doubted that ‘ is this really God’s son’. She kept silence all the time and spent her time in prayer.

As a mother, she was never possessive to keep her dear son with her. When Jesus was on His mission, she was never worried about His security and she was never anxious. At last Mary had to witness the death of her innocent son on cross. Then also she never thought that, why God’s son had to meet such a pathetic death’, why he could not escape from the cross?’ She believed in the word of God or she believed in what the Angel Gabriel had said, ” God is with You”. She was full of Grace, so she could tolerate all these. She was selected by God to lead the way for the people. Her life is her way, that is Surrendering her will to the Will of God. So God rewarded her, her son was resurrected, she is now respected as the Mother of the Whole World.

Let us pray to the Blessed Virgin Mary to save us, to save our kids, to save the world. She will be there with us with the blessings of God.
